Rural roots and craftsmanship: the strength of the farm.

For more than 20 years we have been a living testimony of the agricultural history of the area, choosing to adopt the zero kilometer philosophy and organic crops: from the fertile soil to the table, all our products are hand-crafted with the aim of offering you a taste experience rich in nuances.

We cultivate ancient Sicilian grains, selecting only the best during the harvest, in order to produce bread and pasta with unique taste-olfactory characteristics. From the microclimate of the monrealese countryside we obtain fruity notes that distinguish our oil .

Masseria Castellana, immersed among fragments of history in the Sicilian countryside.

The land on which the Masseria stands today, yesterday had the name of Divisa Malviti, a district of the Castellana feud, which was given to our great-great-grandmother Maria Rosa Sparacio in 1871.
Written evidence of this can be found in the Rollum Bullarum, a document in which William II the Good provided the archbishop of Monreale in 1182 with a detailed list of the landed estate that was to be attributed to him. This document gives us an image not only of the division of the territory, organised into Divise, more or less large districts, each gravitating around a hamlet, but also of the multiculturalism that coexisted at the time, since the document was written in Latin, Arabic and Greek.

“Divisa Malviti has been identified by historians as the 5600-odd large portion, 5000 of which are cultivable, around the Castellana farmhouse.”

Today, the Masseria retains the original layout in which the farm buildings of the Sicilian countryside, which housed living quarters, barns and animal shelters, were arranged around the inner courtyard, the baglio.

Masseria Castellana has been promoting, since the beginning of its renovation project, an idea of sustainability that involves guests in conscious practices, putting them at the heart of an innovative approach to thinking and a deep respect for the environment, through energy efficiency and water saving.
